Visiting the Modern Family Houses in Los Angeles

As a Modern Family fan, one of the highlights of my trip to Los Angeles last year was visiting some of the real-life houses used in the show. While most of the scenes were shot on soundstages, the exterior shots of the characters' homes were filmed at actual houses around LA.

I didn’t go inside any of them, of course. These are private homes, and I was careful to be respectful. I just took photos from the street—no trespassing, just quick visits and a few snapshots. I later posted them on Instagram and TikTok, and surprisingly, they got a lot of attention from other fans.

Here’s where I went:

Phil & Claire Dunphy’s House

📍 10336 Dunleer Dr, Los Angeles, CA

This house is located in the Cheviot Hills neighborhood. It’s one of the most recognizable homes from the show, and it really does look the same in real life—suburban, charming, and exactly how you’d imagine it. On the show, it’s where a lot of the chaotic Dunphy family scenes take place.

Also, here's a little detail I noticed during my visit: the porch light was on—just like in many scenes from the show. If you ever go there, you might catch that small touch too.

Cam & Mitch’s House

📍 2211 Fox Hills Drive, Los Angeles, CA

Their house is in the Century City area. It has a slightly different vibe—more urban and compact—but still stylish. I always loved their home on the show, and seeing it in person was definitely a fun moment.

Gloria & Jay Pritchett’s House

📍 121 S. Cliffwood Ave, Brentwood, CA

From what I had seen in my earlier research, this house is a little more hidden compared to the others. Most of it sits behind a gate, which makes it harder to see clearly from the street. That’s also why I couldn’t visit it properly during my trip. But now that you know the address, maybe you’ll have better luck if you decide to go!

Fun Facts from My Research

• The Dunphy house was reportedly purchased for around $2 million and is now a private residence. The owners agreed to let the crew film the exterior, but only for limited times.

• Cam & Mitch’s home is also a real private house. Interestingly, it’s a lot closer to the Dunphys’ in real life than it seems on the show!

• Jay & Gloria’s house is one of the fanciest of the three and located in Brentwood, one of LA’s wealthier neighborhoods.

If you want to go on your own little Modern Family tour, these addresses are easy to find. Just remember to be respectful—no knocking, no trespassing, just admiration from the sidewalk.

It’s a small adventure, but one I’ll definitely remember.
